Mr. Ivan Zykin is a partner in charge of the firm’s international arbitration practice and Vice President of the International Commercial Arbitration Court at the RF Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICAC). He has thirty years of experience in handling complex cases before international arbitration courts and provides day-to-day counseling on various issues relating to international arbitration and litigation. Recently, Mr. Zykin has successfully represented:

  • a major Russian company as defendant before arbitration court in Stockholm in a $10 million dispute over rescission of a construction agreement;
  • a well-known Russian manufacturer as defendant before arbitration court in Stockholm in a breach of exclusive purchase agreement dispute;
  • a company from western Europe as plaintiff in arbitration proceedings in Moscow in a dispute over breach of contract of sale.

As an arbitrator Mr. Zykin decided more than one hundred and fifty cases, including arbitrations under the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, ICC and UNCITRAL Rules, and investment disputes under international treaties. He is listed among arbitrators of the ICAC, Commercial Arbitration Court at the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Arbitration Commission at the Moscow Interbank Currency Exchange, the Arbitration Court at the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Vilnius International Commercial Arbitration Court (Lithuania), and of some other arbitral institutions.

Mr. Zykin was actively involved in drafting various Russian commercial laws, including the Law on Foreign Trade, Civil Code (international private law provisions), draft of the State Immunities Act.

He represented Russia in several UN Conferences on the International Code of Conduct on Transfer of Technology (1979-1981) elaborated under the auspices of the UNCTAD. Mr. Zykin participated in negotiating several bilateral international tax treaties (1978-1981), and was involved in elaboration of legal rules on electronic fund transfers within the UNCITRAL (1988-1989). He also took part in the Diplomatic Conference on factoring and leasing transactions (1988) organized by the UNIDROIT.

During the past two decades Mr. Zykin has lectured in the Russian Academy of Foreign Trade. He is an author of more than forty publications on business law matters and international commercial arbitration, including:
